2020 ELECTIONS UPDATES
1. Under GEORGIA CODE OCGA 21-2-388, if a voter requests an absentee ballot but decides to vote in person, they will need to bring the absentee ballot to the polling place with them to have it spoiled and be able to vote in person. If they don't have the absentee ballot with them, the poll manager has to mark their absentee ballot as "cancelled" in the poll book so if it comes in the mail later they know this person already voted in person and they should not count that absentee vote.

New Athens- Clarke County Shelter in Place Ordinance
In an effort to reduce the speed at which COVID 19 is infecting our population, the Athens-Clarke County Commission adopted a manditoryshelter in place ordinance on Thursday night.
(SEE VIDEO HERE)
The Athens-Clarke County Commission unanimously approved an emergency measure Thursday night (3/19/20) requiring residents to stay in their homes with some exceptions, hoping to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases spread in the county.
The city will not be enforcing this policy by issuing fines or arresting violators but instead will enforce it with “engagement” and guidance, according to the ordinance.
The Commission also voted to spend at least $3 million to somewhat alleviate the economic impact of closing many businesses to the public, which will throw an untold number of residents out of work at least until April 7, when the "shelter in place" policy expires.
